STAFF CLASSIFICATION AND COMPENSATION PROJECTS

We view pay systems as part of an employee relation strategy adding value to organizational excellence. One that links individual and team rewards to improved performance. We encourage employee involvement and collaboration in our projects to ensure smooth transitions from traditional to new pay approaches. And we design our programs to provide greater accountability to the goals of the campus and a closer link to market reality.

The following case studies are recent projects of our consulting team:

St. Olaf College Compensation Study:

This project replaced the current classification and compensation program of the College with a new system covering 400 non-faculty staff in 200 jobs. The project included an operational review of the current compensation system along with goal setting by the Senior Staff. The second phase provided a market study of benchmark staff jobs externally and identification of salary compression problems. The third phase provides a new job evaluation system. Supervisors were trained by the Consultant to use a point count methodology and complete job evaluations with employees.

Pepperdine University Salary Study of Classified Staff:

This project reviewed the effectiveness of the compensation and classification systems of classified staff of the University and included a market study of benchmark positions among businesses in Los Angeles and universities nationally. The outcome of the study provided analysis and recommendations for improvements to the overall University compensation program for 833 staff positions.

Imperial Irrigation District Survey and Classification Study:

The Consultants developed a new classification and compensation program for this major power and water public utility of 1100 employees in 400 diverse job classifications. The first project involved a market study combined with a new job evaluation system using a job point count methodology. The project was completed within budget and met all of the goals specified by the client. Based on the success of the first study, the Consultants recently updated the market study and included a benefits survey along with salaries reviewed.

Commission Junction.Com Compensation Program:

Commission Junction is a leading dot-com provider of web-based affiliate marketing. This project provided the first compensation program for this start-up company of 275 employees, including market analysis, job descriptions and pay scales. New pay approaches include bonuses, and stock ownership.
