STANLEY J. McKNIGHT, J.D.

Before forming his own consulting business Stan McKnight served as Assistant Vice Chancellor, Campus Human Resources at the University of California, Los Angeles, acting as Chief Human Resources executive for both the campus and the health sciences center. In that capacity, Stan directed the employment, compensation, training, policy development, employee relations and labor relations functions for 17,600 non-academic staff personnel, and administered seven union contracts covering different groups of campus and health sciences center personnel.

Stan held the position of Associate Director of Personnel Services at the University of Iowa, where he oversaw human resources services for the academic campus and its major teaching and research hospital and clinics. From there, he went to Purdue University where he held the position of Director of Personnel Services and acted as the Chief Human Resources executive for the multi-campus University.

Stan holds a Jurist Doctorate fro m the University of Oklahoma College of Law, where he served on the Law Student Board of Governors and as Director of the Law Student Minority Recruitment Program. Upon graduation, he served as Assistant Director of Personnel Services at the University of Oklahoma and as Assistant Director of Personnel at the University of Tennessee at Memphis with responsibility for compensation.

Active within his profession, Stan has received the “Achievement Award for Creativity” from the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR) for his development of an applicant retrieval system uniquely designed for colleges and universities, and he won the “Cost Reduction Incentive Award” given by the National Association of College and University Business Officers and the United States Steel Foundation for his development of an applicant retrieval system that produced a substantial cost savings for his university. He served as the Chair of the CUPA-HR Midwest Region and chaired the CUPA-HR National Convention in St. Louis. He recently authored a chapter in a manuscript titled Contemporary Reading in Higher Education Compensation Practices published by CUPA-HR.
